World Gospel Mission and the Africa Gospel Church of Uganda began ministry on the Buvuma Islands in 2001. 

The initial ministries were spearheaded by Drs. Phillip and Carolyn Knight working in partnership with Rev. David Dikhosooka and other Ugandan pastors.

Churches were established, a school was founded, and a community based health care program was established.

Community Health Education, literacy, and pastors training are key ministries on the Islands as well as church planting and evangelism.
